Final Year Project

I've been busy with my final year project (FYP) and haven't had the time to draw my personal art, so I'm only posting a quick update after so long.

Currently, I'm into CA4, the final stretch for the whole period of FYP, (whoa, time flies!) and I'm focusing on lighting all the shots as the Lighting Artist in my group.

I have learnt how to create better lighting that fits the mood from the CA3 submission.

Before actually lighting in Maya, we should get the screenshot of the un-rendered image of the maya scene, and paintover in Photoshop to clearly show:

-where the light source is from

-if there is any obvious rim light, and add fill lights

-any obvious shadows

-colour balance for the mood of the scene using colour theory

As I progressed with it, I find that a good tip is that treat colouring lighting digitally like adding lights in maya itself. Find the main source of light (key light), add fill lights for any part that is dark or not that visible, and basically adjust the light intensity until it fits the mood.

Meanwhile, this is one of my lighting work-in-progress for one of the scenes in my FYP:

For this shot, it is around late afternoon and the character is sitting at her desk, feeling guilty; hence the dark mood (yes, I know I have to add fill lights for the character but for this, I wanted to nail the lighting behind her first).

That's all for now!
