Fun explorations

Whoa, it's been a while since I updated here!

Okay firstly, I have an assignment which is to redesign a character from a game or film. Initially my lecturer planned to do genderbend which sparked ideas inside me, but in the end it was better to stick to Plan A.

As a Miraculous Ladybug fan, the first thing I thought of was to genderbend Ladybug or Chat Noir (decided the latter), but I felt it was too mainstream as there are so many edits out there with Ladybug as a guy or Chat Noir as a girl. Then I thought of Alix. I like her boyish hip hop/skater style, so I was thinking to make her even more boyish (back to Plan A, I'll just redesign her instead).

Though mainstream, since I already had the Chat Noir genderbend idea, why not draw it? I decided to practise poses and force while keeping in mind silhouettes. Silhouettes are important as they are supposed to convey the right meaning even when dark (imagine what you drew is replaced with black, like a shadow; you are still able to tell what the person is doing or feeling). Also, I'm planning to make this piece a night scene.

Here's the WIP for now:

And secondly, I got inspired to design a hair salon after going for a haircut (I mean, I went to a few haircuts before but this time, the idea suddenly sparked).

I haven't drawn it but I'm going to start with a floor plan alongside research for more visual references. Guess what, I'm planning to model it, texture and light the scene. Sounds ambitious but I'll do it during my free time.

Modelling hard surface objects is actually quite fun and I haven't modelled a large scaled scene since we learned Intro to 3D computer graphics back in Year 1. There was another assignment for Intro to Game Art integration module but it wasn't that large scaled. Now I'm itching to model a scene in Maya, and the fun part next is UV unwrapping, as it allows a better surface for texturing later on. If unwrapped poorly, the texture may look stretched.

That's all for now and thanks for reading!
